Earlier today, Netflix announced that In This Corner of the World will hit their digital platform on March 15. The film will be available in the United States, Canada, Japan, and “a few other countries.”
To promote the release, Netflix Japan started streaming a 90-second teaser trailer.
In This Corner of the World hit Japanese theaters on November 12, 2016. Funimation Films and Shout! Factory teamed up to give the feature North American theatrical runs on August 11, 2017 (USA) and August 18, 2017 (Canada).
In This Corner of the World is rated PG-13. The film is based on Fumiyo Kono’s manga of the same name. Sunao Katabuchi (Black Lagoon, Mai Mai Miracle) directed the film and penned the scripts at MAPPA, while Hidenori Matsubara (Ah! My Goddess, Sakura Wars) provided character designs. Masao Maruyama and Taro Maki were attached to the project as producers.

The award-winning story of IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD follows a young lady named Suzu Urano, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country. This beautiful yet poignant tale shows that even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives.
