I can’t help but wonder what the plot will be for a game lovingly called “Foursquare With Space Noises.”
Earlier today, Fuji TV hosted their “Plus Ultra Fuji TV Anime Lineup Presentation 2018” live streaming event. During the show, the company announced that Niantic Labs’ Ingress mobile game will receive an anime TV series. The project, is being produced by studio Craftar.

Ingress will be a launch title for Fuji TV’s new +Ultra programming block, which kicks off in October.
Ingress is a location-based, augmented-reality mobile game from Niantic, which launched on the Android mobile operating system in November 2012. The game later reached Apple’s iOS in July 2014. The game boasts more than eight million downloads, and seven million players.
An update for the game, titled Ingress Prime was unveiled in December 2017. The update is due to hit later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been specified.
The title itself boasts a sci-fi backstory, which is used to motivate players to travel to various real-world spots to claim “portals.” Niantic describes the plot as:
This world around you is not what it seems. Our future is at stake, and you must choose a side.
A mysterious energy has been unearthed by a team of scientists in Europe. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it or it will control us.“The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us.
“The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity.
Install Ingress and transform your world.
Which side are you on?
