FLCL 2 & 3 Gets New Key Visual, Ticket Pre-Sale Details

Get ready to ride on again, shooting star.

Earlier today, the official FLCL 2 & FLCL 3 anime website updated with a new key visual. The illustration, which was drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, features the main characters standing amid a broken-down wasteland. Haruka can be seen sitting at the back-left of the group.

In addition, the site updated with details on ticket pre-sales. Passes for both titles will be sold at AnimeJapan, which will be held from March 24 – 25. The tickets will feature exclusive artwork.

A guitar pick keychain and a clear file featuring the new visual will also be offered during the event.

FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 will be presented as theatrical films in Japan, which will hit theaters this year. Outside of Japan, the two titles will span six-episode series. Both will launch in 2018, with a break between the end of FLCL 2 and the start of FLCL 3. The two titles will feature completely separate stories. A manga for FLCL 2 is also in the works.

Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL, Gunbuster) is supervising the project, which features character designs by Chikashi Kubota (One-Punch Man, Corpse Princess). Hideto Iwai is writing the screenplay, and Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Space Dandy) is in charge of mechanical designs.

Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Summer Wars) is credited as original Character Designer. Katsuyuki Motohiro is credited as Supervising Director.

The Pillows will score the titles’ soundtracks. Production I.G. is producing the animation.

That said, the two projects will feature different sets of directors. The list of directors for each project is as follows:

FLCL 2

  • Kazuto Arai
  • Toshihisa Kaiya
  • Yuki Ogawa
  • Yoshihide Ibata
  • Kei Suezawa
  • Hiroshi Ikehata

FLCL 3

  • Yutaka Uemura
  • Kiyotaka Suzuki

Adult Swim describes the new title as:

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?
