Netflix Confirms Premiere Dates for Cannon Busters, 4 More


From dragon pilots to epic battles between good and evil, Netflix is lighting up imaginations across the world thi syear.

On July 5, Netflix announced the premiere dates for five previously announced animation projects. The publisher will stream the following:

Kengan Ashura

Kengan Ashura is based on Yabako Sandrovich and illustrator Daromeon’s manga of the same name. Seiji Kishi (Assassination Classroom, Persona 4: The Animation) is directing the project at Larx Entertainment, with Kazuaki Morita (Assassination Classroom, Classroom of the Elite) providing character designs. Makoto Uezu (Akame ga KILL!, The Heroic Legend of Arslan) is in charge of series composition for the project.

Netflix describes the series as:

Kazuo Yamashita is an ordinary fifty-six year old man who one day is summoned by the chairman of his company and hired as a gladiator. He learns that these hired gladiators engage in battles called “Kengan Matches: to protect the corporate rights of the businesses they represent. Kazuo Yamashita is assigned to battle a mysterious Kengan fighter named Ohma Tokita. Both men join the “Kengan Zetsumei Tournament” with the hope of winning the spot as chairman of the Kengan Organization.

GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle

Kobun Shizuno (Knights of Sidonia) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Blame!) is directing the featuere at Polygon Pictures. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Psycho-Pass) is writing the screenplay and sharing series composition duties with Yūsuke Kozaki .

Netflix describes the film as:

The sequel to GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters, this epic re-imagining of the Godzilla world in a futuristic setting pits humans and robots against the biggest Godzilla ever seen in an interplanetary struggle for survival.

Dragon Pilot: Hisone & Masotan

Dragon Pilot: Hisone & Masotan is an original work from Bones and Warner Brothers, which was directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Kiznaiver, Kimi no Iru Machi). Yoshiyuki Ito (Concrete Revolutio, Fullmetal Alchemist) was in charge of character designs for the project, while Mari Okada (Black Butler, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) tackled series composition.

Netflix describes the show as:

Recently stationed Air Self-Defence Force rookie Hisone Amakasu is chosen by a dragon concealed within Gifu Air Base to be his pilot.

Castlevania

Castlevania is based on Konami’s classic video game series of the same name. Sam Deats is directing the new season, which features Warren Ellis attached as writer and executive producer. Adi Shankar, Fred Seibert, and Kevin Kolde are also attached as executive producers.

Netflix describes the show as:

Returning to Netflix for a second season, Castlevania, inspired by the classic videogame series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself. Trevor Belmont, last survivor of his house, is no longer alone, and he and his misfit comrades race to find a way to save humanity from extinction at the hands of the grief-maddened Dracula and his sinister vampire war council.

Cannon Busters

Series creator LeSean Thomas will serve as director and executive producer for the series. Thomas will also co-write the show’s scripts as part of a multi-person team, which includes:

  • Natasha Allegri (Bee & Puppycat creator)
  • Anne Toole (The Witcher)
  • Nilah Magruder (M.F.K.)

Matt Wayne (Justice League Unlimited, Niko & The Sword of Light) was tapped as a story editor.

Netflix describes Cannon Busters as:

The show follows the adventures and exploits of S.A.M, a high-end friendship droid who’s joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a kingdom under siege.
