Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka Gets New Key Visual


These magical girls traded in their merchandisable magical weapons for hot lead.

Earlier today, the official Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka (Mahou Shojo Tokushusen Asuka) anime website updated with a new key visual. The image features the main characters, decked out in their gear and ready for battle.

Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka hits Japanese TV on January 11. The full broadcast schedule is as follows:

  • MBS: 1/11/2019 at 26:25 (1/12/2019 at 2:25AM)
  • TBS: 1/11/2019 at 26:25 (1/12/2019 at 2:25AM)
  • BS-TBS: 1/12/2019 at 25:30 (1/13/2019 at 1:30AM)
  • AT-X: 1/13/2019 at 22:30 (1/13/2019 at 10:30PM)
  • CBC: 1/17/2019 at 26:35 (1/18/2019 at 2:35AM)

Amazon will stream the series on their Prime Video service in Japan.

Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka Key VisualHideyo Yamamoto (The Prince of Tennis II, Strike The Blood) will direct the project at Liden Films, with Yoko Suzuki (Puzzle & Dragons X) providing character designs. The team of Makoto Fukami (Berserk 2016, Yuruyuri San Hai!) and Norimitsu Kaihō (School-Live!, Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation) is in charge of series composition.

R.O.N. is scoring the show’s soundtrack.

  • Chisato Yonemine: Ayana Taketatsu
  • Nozomi Makino: Rie Takahashi

Makoto Fukami and illustrator Seigo Tokiya’s Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka manga launched in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine in June 2015. The series currently spans seven volumes, with volume 8 shipping to stores on July 25.

Seven Seas currently holds the rights to the title in North America. They describe it as:

When the Earth is threatened by the sudden appearance of undead creatures, a group of young women blessed with powers from a mysterious source rose to defeat them. Now, after three years of apparent peace, the same malevolent creatures have resurfaced. Five magical girls are once again conscripted to war as the Magical Girl Special Ops force, to defend mankind from an unholy nemesis.
