Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha, and I’m joined by Anthony Simpson this week.
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re talking up The Promised Neverland, episode 5: Much ado about a door.
Anthony Simpson: Much ado about a door and 11 year old playing 5D chess
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. Ray is a total puppet master, and he’s proud of that.

Anthony Simpson: Yes he is.
I wanted to say I loved the opening shot when it was going back and forth from Ray to Norman. That was so well done.
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely. The timing with the ticking of the clock was just brilliant
Anthony Simpson: So we found out Ray has been mom’s spy for some time and he has been using to get stuff for himself.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. So he’s basically the Red of Grace Field House
He clawed out a position of power and exploits it to no end… sadly, he’s dragging Norman into some truly disturbing directions
Anthony Simpson: True.
Samantha Ferreira: I do wonder how things will turn out – whether Norman will follow through
Anthony Simpson: My guess he will. He’s in too deep at this point to just to give up and accept that he going to food for demons.

Samantha Ferreira: That’s true.
You know… if Don and Gilda don’t ruin this for everybody.
Anthony Simpson: Its reckless of them to just run into mother’s office and trying to find the secret room.
Samantha Ferreira: True that. Especially given that they know what she’s capable of
More than that, though, how hasn’t Don put two an two together and realized that Conny’s long dead at this point?
Like… “they’re being sold to be eaten” isn’t exactly hard to decipher
Anthony Simpson: If is safe to say that Donn and Gilda are either A) way too naive or B) They don’t want to admit to them selves that Connie is dead and they just exist to be sold as food.
Samantha Ferreira: That’s what I’m figuring, as well.
And denial is a heck of a drug

Anthony Simpson: True
Samantha Ferreira: Now, the big question will be “who catches them?”
Sister Krone would be just as bad as Mama Isabella in this case
Anthony Simpson: I’m guessing Mama Isabella since she worries more about money than the rules
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely.
Anthony Simpson: The three best children escape is a lot of lost profits for her.
Samantha Ferreira: Oh, yeah.
Letting them go will devastate her standing
That said, what if Krone catches her? It’s clear she’s… not a good person. But she has an interest in seeing Isabella fail
Anthony Simpson: She might turn a blind eye. We know she doesn’t like Isabella. and wants to see her fail. On the other hand if she turns the kids in she might get promoted as a result.

Samantha Ferreira: that’s what I’m thinking, too. It’s hard to say right now.
On another note, I do wonder what’ll happen with Ray now – like… he’s earned Mama’s trust, but how long until she suspects something?
Anthony Simpson: Who knows.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
Any predictions as to what’ll happen next?
Anthony Simpson: I’m guess probably some kind of show down with the kids of Mama/Krone.
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely. That’s brewing in the foreground, at this point
Anthony Simpson: next week is the half way point the showdown is going to be happening soon.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed – I expect that we’re going to see a power move next week
I’m personally thinking Mama Isabella will do something to just shatter the status quo.
Anthony Simpson: She will do something.

Samantha Ferreira: Can I be bold and make a prediction?
Anthony Simpson: Yes
Samantha Ferreira: As a disclaimer to the readers: I haven’t read the manga, I don’t read wikis, we went in blind. This is me spitballing.
Anthony Simpson: I haven’t read the manga either for ours readers as well.
Samantha Ferreira: I think Mama will catch Gilda and Don… she won’t ship THEM out, but she will be threatened and cast out her biggest threat
Norman.
Just a speculation, knowing Mama, knowing the dynamic of the house
Anthony Simpson: I wouldn’t put it past Mama to do that.
Samantha Ferreira: Not to mention the way this show straight-up messes with the viewer so far
Anthony Simpson: She knows what is going with the group via Ray. Unless Ray has been giving her BS just to get his way with her. I mean the way things are going on in the show it wouldn’t shock if he was feed her crap to get things.
Samantha Ferreira: I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a good 50/50 junk/good ratio to keep her guessing
Anthony Simpson: that seems possible.
Samantha Ferreira: Do you have any other thoughts this week?
Anthony Simpson: Nope, just waiting for next week again to see what happens.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise! And we’ll both be there to discuss what happens. Til next time, though, remember: if you’re going to sneak into your oppressive overlord’s secret room, be sure to have an excuse for being there, first.
Have a great night, everybody!
Anthony Simpson: Good night
