Hollywood Gundam Movie Teaser VisualEarlier today, entertainment news source Deadline reported that comic book and TV writer Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Ex Machina, Runaways) was tapped to write the script for the upcoming Hollywood Gundam film. In addition, Vaughan will serve as an executive producer on the project.

At Anime Expo 2018, Sunrise announced that they will partner with Legendary Pictures to produce a live-action Gundam movie. It was previously reported that the project will be overseen by Legendary’s vice president of production, Cale Boyter, along with the Sunrise creative team.

Sunrise previously hinted at the film during a streaming event. The film was tentatively listed for 2022 as an “International Drama” film set in U.C. 0104.

Mobile Suit Gundam is one of Japan’s most prominent anime properties. The mecha series was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise in 1979, and has gone on to span more than 150 anime, manga, and novel works. In addition, the franchise has spawned a merchandising empire, which includes action figures, models (Gunpla), apparel, and more than eighty video games, among countless other items.
