The Skye’s The Limit
A Final Fantasy XIV Travelogue
Today’s Grimoire Entry
Mon Grimoire bien-aimé,
So much has happened today, that I can hardly find the words to describe it all!
Everything began this morning, as I stepped outside of The Quicksand. The Delivery Moogle had reached me with une lettre. I looked at the envelope, unsure… I knew not anybody who would send me such a correspondence, but the Moogle insisted that it required une réponse immédiate.
Reading through, it was from Lucien! He showed interest in ma grande aventure, and offered me a position with the Gillionway Trading Company, no questions asked! I eagerly responded with “Oui!” before rushing off to help those in need once more.
From the Silver Bazaar to the Black Brush Station, I spent the hours performing tasks, from shooing les vauriens in the Silver Bazaar, to making deliveries at the Dispatch Yard, I whiled away the hours spreading good across the realm.
That evening, I received word that the mechanical monstre had been felled. I could wait no longer: the guild was in dire need! Bursting forth toward the Drybone, I found le chariot blindé in shambles… as I approached, two of Amalj’aa rushed in to attack. They did not last long against mon boules de feu, though! As they fell, I collected their blood for the guild, then found the cargaison précieuse within. I wasted not a moment, running back to Ul’dah to complete my task.
To say they were pleased was an understatement, but the leaders did worry that I was not broadening my horizons enough. They asked me to see the guilds within the city, and earn a few nouvelles compétences.
My first stop was the Weavers’ Guild. Like magicians, they made magic… albeit with a needle and thread. I always wanted to learn this craft, so I was eager to do so! I met with the chef de guilde, the esteemed Redolent Rose, who took me under his wing.
And, I must admit! I rather like this task! I spent hours making thread and stitching cloth, that I didn’t notice the sun falling over the Ul’dah sky! I must thank my leaders at the Ossuary… this was truly un événement chanceux.
Today’s Blog Post
This is one of those days where a lot happened over the course of a very short amount of time. So, to begin:
Free Companies can be likened to Guilds in other MMORPGs. They’re collectives of players, which come together under a leader. They’re able to purchase group housing (a huge plus!), perform group tasks, and provide certain buffs to their members. Lucien sent me an invite late last session, but as I’m writing these two columns in succession, it made more sense to just lump this event into the current work, as it made more sense here. So, going forward, you’ll see their Free Company tag, <Trove> appended to my ID.
To be honest, I had no clue that the secondary job was going to open up any time soon – I knew this was a thing, but I thought it’d be, far later! Being able to mess around and explore jobs like Weaving, Mining, and Alchemy is a wonderful way to change the pace, as it offers things to do that aren’t limited to exploring the countryside. And, from my understanding, a decent way to earn some coin once you unlock the ability to sell on the Market Board.
Personally, I took to the Weaver’s Guild almost immediately, as I began to start making thread, then cloth, then simple clothes. There’s something innately soothing about the process, and I really do see myself doing more of this as time goes on… probably on those days where there isn’t as much going on.
I had intended to check out other jobs, but I wound up spending so much time weaving that it was already 7:30 by the time I ran out of Moko Grass!
Skye Grandeterre is a Duskwight Elezen character played by Samantha Ferreira. She currently resides on the Zalera server on the Aether Data Center.
