The Skye’s The Limit

A Final Fantasy XIV Travelogue

Today’s Grimoire Entry

Mon cher Grimoire,

Today has been une tempête d’excitation! From the moment I awoke at The Quicksand, I was running as quickly as my legs could take me. The masters of the guilds were all seeking new candidates, from the brilliant Alchemists, to the Miners, to the Gladiators! I had to try every last one of them, to see which would be welcome in my accoutrement of skills.

So, from the moment the sun rose, I walked. First to the Alchemists, then to the Goldsmiths, then the Miners, et ainsi de suite, until I had joined them all! They were all so helpful, and gladly gave me tools to start me on my way. Mon préféré Guildmaster, though, was Serendipity of the Goldsmiths. She was sweet as a bon bon, and her assistant, Gigi, was un robot mignon.

Sadly, I had no time to stop and learn just now… there were still many in need, and dear Momodi had requested that I go west, toward Horizon to see about a task. Momodi is une si belle femme… she was kind enough to introduce me to the Chocobo Porter. Just a few gil later, and I was galloping on un grand oiseau across the countryside!

When I arrived, a Lalafell named Dadanen was waiting. He was in une situation difficile, as a shipment from the Copperbell Mines had not yet arrived. He asked me to see what was happening. No sooner than I turned away was I stopped by another Lalafell, Totonowa. He needed help with un monstre in the Footfalls nearby. I couldn’t possibly let that beast roam free, so I took up my staff and ran forth. While the monstre was big, it wasn’t exactly tough. He fell in moments to my Fire spells, returning peace to the region.

Totonowa was so thrilled that I had worked quickly that he offered me une opportunité d’une vie. He would allow me to take on tasks to keep the region safe, by completing “Guildleaves”, which I think are bounties, but I was too excited to ask. More incredible, he introduced me to his friend, une femme named Lost Rabbit, who wanted to help me work with other heroes from afar! C’est excitant!

Sadly, I could not stay and help more, as the matter of the mines remained. Upon finding my way there, I saw un homme géant, who scowled in frustration. He explained that rare monstres have eaten this month’s supply of rare ores! Quelle horreur! I could not allow that to stand, so I ventured into the mines, felling the beasts and harvesting the ore from their bellies. From there, I made the delivery in the homme’s stead.

There was much to be done this evening, and so many people to help once I got back! I gathered monstre eyes for Brass Blades, set traps for thieves, and even hunted the terrifying mongrels for the Horizon guards!

I felt like I was at my limit… I could walk no further, when Dadanen asked me for one last task. His friend, un homme named Leofric, was transferred to a place called Lost Hope. They had spoken over mail for some time, but the last letter never arrived. He had grown worried, and asked me to investigate.

Midway there, I found a courier, tending to his wounded chocobo (C’est malheureux!). She explained that she was to deliver the mail, but could go no further. She entrusted the task to me. I couldn’t say no, and instead offered un sourire chaleureux as I hurried off. When I arrived at Lost Hope, I could only recoil at what lay before me. Tattered tents and broken dreams were hung heavily, as the faces of those reflected this location’s very namesake. I found Leofric, and delivered the message. He begged me to leave, but I could not.

He heaved a heavy sigh, instead, and asked if I could help. Bandits had taken up residence nearby, one of whom fancied himself as the late, infamous Eolande Quiveron. It would be my duty to defeat them, as soon as I could… but for now, he asked me to find a place to sleep. I nodded in agreement, my body feeling heavy as I trudged to Black Brush Station. There, I staggered to the first open bed, and fell, sleep quickly taking me.

Today’s Blog Post

While it seems like a lot happened over the course of today’s update, I assure you, there hasn’t been a whole lot of movement. A lot of today went toward acclimating myself with the various guilds and picking up optional jobs that will make the later game far less taxing. Things like crafting, mining, and the like are great resources for materials and higher-level items as you begin to progress through the ranks.

Sure, you won’t get everything through crafts, and many tend to ignore these vocations entirely in the early game. Still, from what I’ve seen, these jobs do open up a few doors for possible cash flow opportunities once the Market Board opens up.

The jobs like Gladiator and Pugilist, meanwhile, will open the door to more physical jobs: specifically, the Monk and the Paladin. While I don’t expect to move away from the mage path just yet… well, it’s good to keep your options open.

Today’s really interesting unlock, though, came from Guildleaves. These are basically bounty missions that are handed out by various people across the region. Some have you making deliveries or gathering items. Others have you slaying monsters. I’ve only done the initial quest so far, but the bounties appear to be strong, in the early game.

Moreover, Guildhests are bigger, multi-person quests that can’t be soloed. The big get from this particular quest was the Duty Finder: AKA the “Looking For Group Button” that allows you to partner up with random people for various multi-person jobs like Guildhests, raids, and PvP events.
