The Skye’s The Limit

A Final Fantasy XIV Travelogue

Today’s Grimoire Entry

Dearest Grimoire,

As the crisis has now passed, I can finally speak of what has been going on! I think!

Yesterday, I met with Monsieur Owyne, the Sultansworn, about the letter that I had brought to Madame Momodi. To say things were dire would be… gentille. In the dead of night, the Sultana’s crown, the symbol of Ul’dah, was stolen from the palace, under Owyne’s careful watch! Quelle horreur!

The thieves demanded a ransom… and they demanded Owyne go alone. But, as any smart warrior knows, you never go alone. I was asked to go with him… to that filthy swamp in The Clutch. There, the démons waited… and their goals were worse than I could ever imagine. they were planning to use the ransom to raise the dead, and unleash an army of the undead upon the world!

Suddenly, we were outnumbered. Scores of men stepped out from nowhere to end us, but before they could advance further, the Sultansworn appeared! At their front was Papashon, that delightful man from the train tracks!

We were evenly matched, as spells rained on both sides and les épées se sont affrontées. Before long, they fell, and another crowd could be heard on the road to Drybone. The Sultansworn gave chase, before a black energy surrounded our arena. The masked man from the quarry stepped forth, this time intending to finish me off.

Mon dieu, did he try! He summoned a mighty gargoyle, which proved to put up quite the fight! All seemed lost, but Monsieur Thancred somehow found us, and stepped in to lend his blade! Soon, the man in the mask fell, leaving behind a black crystal that went pof! As it exploded into vapor.

With the day saved, Thancred and I breathed a sigh of relief. We could finally relax for un instant. We parted ways once more, as I returned to see Papashan and Owyne at Ul’dah… as we spoke, the Sultana, herself, stepped in to thank us! Je suis toujours sous le choc! She offered a personal invite to her next gala… but.. How do I begin to prepare? I guess I should speak with Madame Momodi

Today’s Blog Post

Over the past day, I’ve been working slowly toward the next major job goals for Mining and Weaving.

The mining jobs are still a bit of a slog, for sure, but I’m coming to appreciate what they intend to teach. Each major job level asks you to apply the skills learned from your previous reward.

  • For Level 5, it was “find a specific item”.
  • For Level 10, it was “Identify an item, then know where to find it.”
  • For Level 15, it’s “Prove that you can use Perception bonuses and the sledgehammer”

And so on. While it’s not the most fun way to drill a lesson home, I have to admit that it works. Still, I can’t help but wish they got more of that “personal touch” into things, like the Weaving jobs, or even the Goldsmithing.

As a quick note, the column will not run tomorrow, as it’s my day off. Please enjoy this shot of Sky with Noctis in the meantime!
