Mamoru Oshii Joins With Ranma Anime Director To Produce “Vladlove” Anime


Earlier today, anime director Mamoru Oshii hosted a press conference for his new anime project. During the presentation, he announced that his TV project will be Vladlove: a “girl meets girl” comedy show. The first crew members for the project were revealed, along with a brief story treatment.

Staff

Junji Nishimura ((Ranma ½, You’re Under Arrest: The Motion Picture) will direct the project at Comic Animation Inc., while Issei Aragaki produces character designs. Kei Yamamura will share series composition duties with Oshii. Daisuke ‘DAIS’ Miyachi will score the show’s soundtrack.

Story

Vladlove will be a slapstick comedy series, which focuses on a budding romance between a vampire named Mai and a normal girl. The series, which will have a twelve-episode run, is slated for a Spring 2020 premiere.

Theme Songs

The show’s theme song will be performed by performance unit BlooDye, which will be headed by Kanako Takatsuki and Karin Isobe. Other members include Chisami Itō, Ayano Furutaka, and Sayaka Akagi.

BlooDye will serve as an “ambassador unit”, tasked with promoting the show. Their first single will be titled Somewhere In This World (Kono Hoshi no Dokoka de).

Comic Natalie reports that Oshii had the idea for Vladlove “about a year before he began shooting [2014 film] Garm Wars. He added that it’s been more than thirty years since his last anime series, Urusei Yatsura, which ended in 1986. He added that, while he wouldn’t do any more long-running shows, he found the process of making a series more interesting, and wanted to return to the process.

With regards to the show’s content, Oshii stated that there would be “no attractive boys,” adding that he wanted to do a girl-meets girl story.
