Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha, and I”m here with Anthony Simpson and L.B. Bryant
L.B. Bryant: Hello!
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’ll be talking up Fruits Basket Episode 14: “You’re not crying, I’m crying!”
Anthony Simpson: Lots of feels this episode.
L.B. Bryant: jfc, this episode.
Samantha Ferreira: God… I cried. I straight-up ugly cried

 Fruits Basket Episode 14 Still
L.B. Bryant: I didn’t shed any tears but seeing Momiji’s story played out had my jaw on the floor. In the previous adaptation this was a sad story but in this one it was straight up dark.
Anthony Simpson: Momiji’s story was just…terrible like that is awful that while his mom is alive she tried to kill her self then had her memories of him wiped.
Like WTF.
L.B. Bryant: Yeah, in the previous adaptation they totally glossed over her suicide attempts so when I saw her on the floor with bandages around her wrists and then stabbing scissors into her stomach (womb?)… just wow.
It hit me like a ton of bricks.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
I wanted to see how you two would react to that
L.B. Bryant: Something else about this episode that I saw on Twitter has me very curious about the future (no spoilers lol)… why did Momiji drop his accent when talking to his mom? That’s going to bug me until they explain that a bit more later on.

 Fruits Basket Episode 14 Still
Anthony Simpson: I just wanted to give Momiji a hug after hear that and tell him its going to be alright.
I’m not sure on that.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
Seriously, the poor kid’s hiding a lot of pain
L.B. Bryant: Most everyone in this series is being held together by simple threads I think.
Anthony Simpson: Lots of questionable tape and cheap threads.
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely.
It’s clear that they’re just… hanging on with the few shreds of stability they can grasp at
L.B. Bryant: Indeed. It’s such a stark reminder of reality and how you never know what kind of pain the average stranger is dealing with on the inside.
Samantha Ferreira: True that. Also that the biggest smiles can often conceal the greatest pains
L.B. Bryant: What’s frightening to me is that I know this series is only going to get darker as the weeks progress. I highly doubt we’ve gotten to the truly screwed up parts yet. heh
Samantha Ferreira: I say nothing
At all
lol

 Fruits Basket Episode 14 Still
Anthony Simpson: I’m guessing it getting worse as the weeks go on.
L.B. Bryant: It’s just one of those things where I know it’s going to get super dark eventually but I’m already way too far down the rabbit hole to turn back lol
Samantha Ferreira: lol – So what do you think will happen?
L.B. Bryant: I don’t have specific predictions. I’m just buckled in tight and ready for the ride.
Anthony Simpson: I don’t have predictions but with what both of you have been saying I’m expecting shit to hit the fan in the next few weeks.
The second half of the episode dealing with the death of family members hit me hard since in a span of about 1 year we had three deaths in our family.
L.B. Bryant: The second half of the episode was actually fun for me. One of the first dates that my wife and I went on was a picnic in a graveyard down in Oregon so that part brought back those memories for me.
I also liked how they managed to tie in previous events when Yuki realizes that the reason why Tohru was so concerned for him when he was sick was because of her father.
Samantha Ferreira: Interesting.
To be honest, that was the part that had me just weeping. ^^; I… was hit by how beloved Tohru’s mom was
And how everyone wanted to honor her memory in their own way

 Fruits Basket Episode 14 Still
Anthony Simpson: Tohru’s mom seemed like an amazing person when she was around.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
She touched a lot of folks
And apparently was a hell of a biker
L.B. Bryant: I need a cool nickname like Crimson Butterfly
Samantha Ferreira: You’re The Jackal now
L.B. Bryant: lol

 Fruits Basket Episode 14 Still
Samantha Ferreira: lol
I’m kind of amazed gramps tended to her grave, though
After his general dickishness with Hawaii
…it really does feel like the start of a new arc, though – the handling, the plot elements, etc.
Anthony Simpson: It does well with a new OP and ED happening this time around.
L.B. Bryant: Getting into the last few moments of the episode; what did you both think of the moment when Yuki spies Kyo leaning down on a sleeping Tohru?
Samantha Ferreira: God… that will lead to some real conflicts
SOme great conflicts
Anthony Simpson: Exactly
Samantha Ferreira: My question is this: What do you think Kyo’s sorry for?
L.B. Bryant: There is a laundry list of reasons why he could be sorry, I couldn’t choose just one at this time.

Samantha Ferreira: Hehe
Anthony?
Anthony Simpson: I’m siding with L.B on this.
Samantha Ferreira: OK then!
Any final thoughts this week?
L.B. Bryant: Nothing from me.
Anthony Simpson: Nope
Samantha Ferreira: OK then. I guess that wraps things up, then! Join us next week when we start the new season! Will it be a new show? Will we be back with FruBa? You’ll have to find out. Just remember: sometimes, a graveyard is a good place for a picnic
Have a great night!
