Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha, and I’m here with L.B. Bryant and Anthony Simpson
L.B. Bryant: Hello!
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re back to the Soma Household with Fruits Basket episode 23: “Tsun-tsun Kyo shows his dere-dere side”
And yeah… tonight was a big episode in terms of developments!
Lots of character growth, lots of little hints of what’s to come in the finale
L.B. Bryant: This was a very busy episode compared to the last couple of weeks.
It felt like they were cramming A LOT of little plot hooks into one episode
Anthony Simpson: Very busy episode but it was so good.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
I think it was very much needed after the generally relaxed pace of the past few episodes
L.B. Bryant: There’s just so much to talk about that I’m not sure which point to start with heh
Samantha Ferreira: That’s hard to say. I mean… we have Tohru failing, then getting sick. We have Kyo and Kagura’s standoff at the market. We have Shigure being Shigure. We have Shisho returning. We have some big hooks to this finale that I won’t spoil
L.B. Bryant: Let’s start with Tohru being sick and Kyo making dinner for her because that was adorable. I loved seeing Kyo drop his normal “tough guy” persona and be there for Tohru.
Samantha Ferreira: Agreed
It was such a sweet moment
Anthony Simpson: Seeing Kyo was adorable I agree.
L.B. Bryant: Also, Hari is such the perfect straight man for Shigure.
Samantha Ferreira: He really is
His deadpanning was amazing
Anthony Simpson: I can just say Momiji all being dressed for cleaning was so cute.
L.B. Bryant: That scene was actually shortened (likely for time). In the original adaptation we actually get a few seconds of him frantically pushing around a mop lol
Samantha Ferreira: lol – I’ll allow it. I think it was short and sweet here
I loved the two old cleaning ladies just fawning over him
L.B. Bryant: Another change I noticed is that Tohru didn’t accidentally turn Kyo into a cat by fainting on him as they were walking home this time around.
Samantha Ferreira: I fully welcome that.
It would’ve ruined the gravity of the moment
L.B. Bryant: So, let’s talk Kagura.
Samantha Ferreira: You mean the adorable Terminator?
L.B. Bryant: I felt extra sad for her this episode. Kyo is normally mean to her but this time he was really out for blood it felt like. Especially when they were in the grocery store.
Samantha Ferreira: True that.
L.B. Bryant: To be fair, Kagura was pushing him towards things that he doesn’t want to talk about but even still… bring it down a peg or two dude.
Samantha Ferreira: That was just… yikes

Anthony Simpson: Yikes indeed.
Samantha Ferreira: I felt genuinely bad for her
L.B. Bryant: So Anthony, I’m curious… do you have any theories on what Kagura was talking about in the grocery store?
We won’t tell you if you’re right or wrong.
Anthony Simpson: No clue myself.
L.B. Bryant: I’m just curious if you have any thoughts on it.
okies, that’s fair.

Samantha Ferreira: Hehe.
Anthony Simpson: Unless its his tough guy exterior is just an act.
L.B. Bryant: :X
Samantha Ferreira: I’m saying nothing
L.B. Bryant: I am really curious to see how the next two episodes are going to play out and at what point the story is going to leave off.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise.
I think I know where
but I won’t spoil it
Now… what are your thoughts on Shisho?
L.B. Bryant: We didn’t get a lot to go off of in this episode. Next week is going to be much more interesting in that regard.
Samantha Ferreira: True that
Any final thoughts this week?
Anthony Simpson: I’m looking forward to what comes next.
L.B. Bryant: I’m going to miss this show something fierce when it’s over ;0;
Samantha Ferreira: Thankfully, more will be coming!
L.B. Bryant: Eventually.
Samantha Ferreira: Sooner than later, I’d guess
L.B. Bryant: heh true
