Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha, and I’m here with L.B. Bryant and Anthony Simpson
L.B. Bryant: Hello
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re heading to the Soma Household for one last time as we talk up Fruits Basket episode 25: “Please don’t tell me you weren’t expecting a second season”
Anthony Simpson: Speaking of second seasons I’m glad they announced it right at the end that we are getting more Fruits Basket next year.
L.B. Bryant: Shojo fans around the world would’ve rioted if they hadn’t heh
Samantha Ferreira: I’m glad, in the sense that it was announced, but given that they’ve had that big “1st Season” branding in the title card since day one, I’d have been shocked if they didn’t
L.B. Bryant: In terms of the actual episode content… how adorable was Tohru’s facial expressions in this episode?
Anthony Simpson: She was totally adorable.
Samantha Ferreira: God yeah. She was adorbs.
I’m glad she got her schmaltzy season ending
Poor girl got smacked around by a cat raptor last episode
Anthony Simpson: I was glad to see as well Sam.
This was just a good season ending episode. Even there was no second season the ending was still good.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
The setup for that season was great too, finally introducing Rin – who I will not comment on for obvious reasons.
L.B. Bryant: Was she the one in the school or the one in the hospital? Neither of those characters were named in this episode.
Samantha Ferreira: Who, indeed. :3
I’ll let you agonize a bit over that until season 2 kicks next spring-ish. (Prediction, of course)
L.B. Bryant: k
Samantha Ferreira: So, with two cours down, what are your thoughts?
Anthony Simpson: Since this was the last Spring show I needed to finish it’s easily my favorite from Spring. Easily also one of my top shows of the year.
L.B. Bryant: Overall I consider this to be one of the top anime of the year if not one of the top anime of the decade.
Samantha Ferreira: I’d say top of the year for me, for sure
Anthony Simpson: Never having watched the OG Fruits Basket I don’t have any comparison but year I’m really glad I gave this show a chance.
L.B. Bryant: Do you think that you will go back and watch the original at any point, Anthony?
Anthony Simpson: I will at some point. At least to get an idea of what the original was like.
Not sure when I will get to that. Maybe after S2 is finished next year I will check it out.
Samantha Ferreira: No rush… this is definitely the superior adaptation so far.
L.B. Bryant: Indeed.
Samantha Ferreira: Wow…. I honestly don’t know what to say otherwise. I mean… it was a schmaltzy ending – Kyo made up with Shisho, Yuki and cousinhusbando are still there, Tohru’s watching over everybody, Shigure’s Shigure…
Only ones missing were Mitchan and Ritchan
Anthony Simpson: Kyo making up with Shisho was my favorite part.
L.B. Bryant: I loved the Kagura scenes personally.
Samantha Ferreira: She was adorable
And the bit with Shisho was just so sweet.
Anthony Simpson: It was.
L.B. Bryant: What did you two think of the stairwell scene between Tohru and Yuki? Yuki showed some new sides to himself in those moments including saying that he would take Tohru away and even laughing when she got all flustered and hit her head.
Thought that was an interesting development to throw into the season finale.
Anthony Simpson: Starting with him putting his tie on correctly, then talking with people then the stair scene was a really good way of showing how much Yuki has changed.
Samantha Ferreira: To be honest, it was a fantastic way to cap off his current character arc. It shows how much he’s changed since that first episode
L.B. Bryant: Agree with you both.
Samantha Ferreira: Same with Kyo, well… TRYING to not let Yuki get to him
L.B. Bryant: I really can’t wait to see where the story takes Shigure in the second season.
Samantha Ferreira: I am not at liberty to say
Any final thoughts this week?
Anthony Simpson: The next show we have to do is going to have a tall order to top FB 2019
L.B. Bryant: I’ve said this before but I feel bad for the next show we watch.
Samantha Ferreira: Oh god yeah.
I’ll be the one reminding you at the start of the season: “Remember, everyone… Fruits Basket was a monster – we will not match that =D”
