Kumamoto Government Announces Natsunagu Anime for January 2020

For the first time, an anime produced by a local government will air for a full cour on Japanese broadcast television. That’s pretty cool.

In a conference held on November 18, they revealed that an anime meant to revitalize the prefecture and rebuild after the 2016 earthquakes will air on local television and Tokyo MX starting in January 2020. The anime, titled Natsunagu!, will feature vocal talent and staff members native to the prefecture, which is also a neat little touch.

In the series, the story focuses on a college-age girl living in Tokyo who visits Kumamoto to find friends she lost contact with after the earthquakes. When she gets there, she meets new friends and finds a new spark of life within her because of them.

Unfortunately, only a few names were announced as officially attached to this project. Voicing the female lead will be Yoshino Aoyama. Meanwhile, Yasuyuki Honda is sitting in the director’s chair and Domeshisan will write the scripts.

No exact premiere date was set, but the series will air at some point in January 2020.
