Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha, and I’m here with L.B. Bryant and Anthony Simpson
Anthony Simpson: Evening
L.B. Bryant: Hello!
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re heading back to the world of the bookless with Ascendance of a Bookworm episode 3: “Crochet: it’s what’s hot and fashionable!”
Anthony Simpson: I want to state that I liked the touch of how Myne’s family wonders about how she knows all this stuff that she does.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. A shame that they kind of hand-wave it away after that
Anthony Simpson: I have a feeling that they are going to be bringing that up again in a later time.
L.B. Bryant: Indeed. We’re still in flashback mode right now.
Samantha Ferreira: For now, though, I do have to think that everything feels… safe – like… every week, Main mysteriously creates some big improvement for the world (and nobody says a word as they keep it to themselves), them she proves to be a “prodigy” in 4-5 different subjects
In this case, she:
- invented pancakes
- invented crochet
- balanced the books of the guards
- proved to be a masterclass basket weaver
- started making papyrus
Anthony Simpson: I can see where you are coming from there Sam.
Samantha Ferreira: It all feels very “safe” right now, if you get what I mean… like, she can straight up manipulate everyone around her and they’re somehow cool with it
Anthony Simpson: I do see your point.
L.B. Bryant: Yeah, I can see the point of view. It’s pretty status quo for an isekai series though so I’ve been able to enjoy it without too many problems.
Samantha Ferreira: I think what does it for me is how… convenient it all is?
Anthony Simpson: It does seem convenient but then again this is an isekai I don’t expect the show to have a deep conversation about the consequences of bring modern conveniences to what appears to a society that lacks them.
Samantha Ferreira: True. It’s the isekai curse (TM)
Anthony Simpson: Exactly. That said I do hope someone does ask Myne why she knows so much. I mean the seeds are planted so lets at least hope something comes of it.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. Especially since she’s apparently acting vastly differently than she did previously
Anthony Simpson: True.
Samantha Ferreira: But yeah… so far, this feels like the safest show ever – we know how it’ll end, at this point if we’ve been paying attention
L.B. Bryant: Yeah, it just strikes me as a relaxing watch each week. I am curious if they are going to introduce any conflict at any point but I’m fine with watching Myne/Main just learning how to cope with her new life.
Anthony Simpson: I don’t see them introducing any major type of conflict.
Unless she gets accused of witch craft because of her inventions.
Samantha Ferreira: Yeeeah, same. But even then, we know what’ll happen, because she’s safe and sound in the scholar’s care.
Anthony Simpson: Exactly
Samantha Ferreira: So yeah… I think that’s where our season finale will take us – episode 12 will be that “what a nice dream :0” thing
While the scholar now knows everything
Aniwho, any final thoughts this week?
L.B. Bryant: Nothing from me.
Samantha Ferreira: Okey doke… til next time, remember: when life gives you lemons, use the skin to make papyrus.
Have a great night!
L.B. Bryant: Night! :)
Anthony Simpson: Good night
