Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome back to the Herald Anime Club. I’m Samantha, and I’m here with Anthony Simpson
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re diving back down the well with Id:INVADED Episode 5: “That’s not soy sauce… that’s not soy sauce at all! D:”
Anthony Simpson: I have a bottle of soy sauce sitting at my desk at work. That is going to give me pause every time I see now.
Samantha Ferreira: Right? That was messed up. Like… beautifully so, because it was so unexpected
Anthony Simpson: So unexpected. Hell I say that this whole episode was unexpected in many ways.
Samantha Ferreira: Agreed!
It felt like one turn after another, from learning the truth about the Gravedigger, to learning the REAL truth about the Gravedigger
Anthony Simpson: Chef’s kiss on the learning about who the Gravedigger is.
Samantha Ferreira: Right? They hinted at that beautifully, but really did a great job with the reveal. Also the whole inversion of the kill/love instincts caused by the brain drilling
Speaking of, though, did you expect the field agent to be 23? O_o She looks, like, a lot younger.
Anthony Simpson: I guessed either late teens early 20’s like maybe 19/20 maybe. Currently not 23.
Samantha Ferreira: Yeah. That was kind of shocking given her design
Anyway! Her pulling a glock was pretty awesome
Anthony Simpson: I would have been disappointed if she didn’t do anything. I mean she rammed into a drill so doing something like this should be par for the course.
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely.
I’m really liking her as a character
Anthony Simpson: She is one of my favorites in the show hands down.
Samantha Ferreira: Same. She’s fearless, willing to just dive head-first into danger if it means securing justice.
Anthony Simpson: Exactly.
Samantha Ferreira: Honestly, the entire cast has been super strong in this, so I’m glad to tune in every week just to see them at work
Anthony Simpson: I agree. While I think the show would work with a weaker cast it would be as enjoyable as it now.
Samantha Ferreira: Definitely. Though I wonder what Johnny Walker has to say about the show using their branding so heavily as a villain…
Anthony Simpson: I would like to know as well about that.
Samantha Ferreira: It’s always kind of made me laugh that the main villain is a guy names John Walker, who is literally dressed like the Johnnie Walker whiskey mascot
Anthony Simpson: Unless he some kind of not to subtle comment about alcoholism.
Samantha Ferreira: True. I could definitely see that, but… At the same time…
Why would an entire police division chase a metaphor?
Anthony Simpson: I don’t even know Sam. My line of thinking was way out of left on that one.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
Any final thoughts this week?
Anthony Simpson: Nope just curious to see what happens next week
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise! And hopefully we get more great intrigue next time. Til then, though, remember: “When your preferred alcoholic drink mascot goes on a killing spree, you know you’ve had too much.”
Have a great night!
Anthony Simpson: Good night
