Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club. I’m Samantha, and I’m here with Anthony Simpson and L.B. Bryant
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re going back to the well with ID:INVADED episode 6: “Forever Traveling on the Train of Sadness”
And I did not expect this episode to go in the directions it did. Holy crap.
Anthony Simpson: This episode went places.
Samantha Ferreira: Right? I mean… not only did we get the resolution to the Gravedigger case in a BIG way, but we got a surprisingly introspective Sakaido case… and some TRULY fucked up stuff about the girl detective
Anthony Simpson: Where to even start. I mean we get Matsuoka getting stabbed in the shoulder and being NBD about it.
Samantha Ferreira: Yeah… he is a flat-out boss. Also, his relationship with the brass is kind of interesting. As well as Honomachi… that scene where she was given Detective status was very telling
Anthony Simpson: I had a feeling that she going to be getting Detective status sooner or later. I mean she did show up in the ID-well earlier on in the show.
Samantha Ferreira: Same. I was more thinking about the conversation with Hondomachi
Where he basically says “you’re going to kill people if I let you keep going, so congratulations on your incarceration.”
Anthony Simpson: That was all sorts of messed up.
Samantha Ferreira: Right? I wonder if he was Sakaido’s partner originally – like, he could see the signs
Anthony Simpson: That sounds like that is a possibility. If he wasn’t then he certainly knows more about the system than probably everyone sans the chief.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. There’s a lot of intrigue here
L.B. Bryant: I have to admit that I was equally floored by the revelation about girl detective at the end of the episode. The look on her face as it was spelled out for her was jaw dropping.
Anthony Simpson: I think most would be shocked if they got that kind of news.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. And it was kind of amazing to see that excited smile turn to this abject horror. So… odd question: Did anyone else find it hilarious to see the fight scene where Hondomachi’s bullet went STRAIGHT THROUGH the perp’s head and into the wall behind him?
L.B. Bryant: Yeah, that was rather silly lol
Anthony Simpson: A bit silly…perhaps but chef’s kiss that was beautifully drawn and executed.
Samantha Ferreira: Oh god yeah. That scene was beautifully done. The choreography was great and it was just a joy to watch, right down to that climactic ending.
Shoot, this whole episode was kind of a joy to watch… right down to the whole relationship of the whole Gravedigger duo. “Don’t look at him.”
“You need anything?” “Nah, she hears me =D”
Like… that whole segment was just a fascinating character study
Anthony Simpson: Indeed
Samantha Ferreira: So on another note: Who do you think Johnny Walker is?
…Aside from a beloved whisky brand?
Anthony Simpson: I don’t know honestly.
L.B. Bryant: My best guess is he’s someone from Sakaido’s past but I have no idea beyond that vague guess.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise. There’s a lot to choose from here, and he’s clearly invested in things, given he’s been bugging peoples’ homes. Including the house of the man who murdered Sakaido’s family.
Aniwho… any other thoughts this week?
L.B. Bryant: Nothing from me at this time.
Anthony Simpson: Interested to see what happens next week.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise… and I guess that’s a good point to leave on. Til next time, remember: sometimes, a promotion is a very bad thing.
Have a great night!
L.B. Bryant: Night
Anthony Simpson: Good night.
