Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome back to the Herald Anime Club! Tonight, it’s a three-person panel with myself, L.B., and Anthony
L.B. Bryant: Hello
Anthony Simpson: Evening
Samantha Ferreira: And tonight we’re back to the world of cyberpunk detectives for Id:INVADED Episode 12: “Well, that escalated quickly.”
Anthony Simpson: That is putting it lightly.
Samantha Ferreira: Right? This was just ramp-up after ramp-up.
You had Kiki coming out and raising hell, Bad Santa finally showing himself as, well… bad whisky mascot. :p, and just… everything building up as pieces fall into place
Anthony Simpson: I have to say I liked Bad Santa as the whisky mascot in the well. From a design perspective.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.
Anthony Simpson: I also wasn’t expecting Bad Santa to shoot himself in the stomach several times then commit suicide when he dove into his own well.
Samantha Ferreira: That was a twist I did not see coming. Holy shit.
Anthony Simpson: I didn’t buy his answer saying he never killed anyone.
I mean you don’t create a bunch of serial killers without getting your hands dirty with blood.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise. That’s the same excuse we hear from crime bosses. “I never hurt anybody!”
Anthony Simpson: Is he a serial killer himself? By proxy I would say he is, but yea he has killed a few people in life I would say. Maybe not as much as all of the serial killers he created.
Samantha Ferreira: I’d say so. He admitted to being an accessory to seven of Japan’s most infamous serial killers
Not illegal but super telling also, though: Dude’s a raging misogynist – I started wondering how red his pills were by the fifth time he called Kiki “that bitch”
Anthony Simpson: That was a big yikes moment when I heard say that.
Samantha Ferreira: I guess once the mask is off you might as well go full villain, but yeeeah.
Anthony Simpson: He was already committed so might as well just go all the way.
Samantha Ferreira: Indeed. Drop the pretense, we know he’s bad, so go cartoonish. I did not expect to see Fukuda do the big hero sacrifice, though – that was a big turn given how his story began
Anthony Simpson: I wasn’t either. Also I have to say I liked how they worked in Hondomachi solving thee gravedigger case when saying that she couldn’t see his scar.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise. I also like how they really worked in a lot of these ancillary characters that just didn’t have much agency outside of their arcs.
Like the well crew, Momoki, the Gravedigger, herself…
Granted SHE got killed by our murderous mead mascot so…
Anthony Simpson: Speaking that I wonder why his face was all distorted again when he killed her.
Samantha Ferreira: I think it was more a projection of him – kind of like a residue of the guy from her own interactions with John Walker and Kiki
Anthony Simpson: That sounds likely.
Samantha Ferreira: So that makes me wonder how many of these are running around
Anthony Simpson: I wonder myself.
Samantha Ferreira: I also wonder if that’ll play into the finale next week
Anthony Simpson: Probably.
Samantha Ferreira: Hrm.. Any final thoughts this week?
Anthony Simpson: Curious now to see how it all ends. Have to say I’m going to miss this show when it is over.
L.B. Bryant: Nothing from me.
Samantha Ferreira: Likewise… I just can’t wait to see this big final showdown between Sakaido and John Walker that’s just been building all week.
Until next time, remember: we all wear masks… some just use them to warp into the brains of serial killers. Have a great night!
Anthony Simpson: Good night
