Samantha Ferreira: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Herald Anime Club! I’m Samantha,a nd I’m joined by Anthony Simpson and L.B. Bryant.

Anthony Simpson: Evening

L.B. Bryant: Hello

Samantha Ferreira: Tonight, we’re heading back to the Grat Imperial Theater for another round, as we discuss Sakura Wars (2019) the Animation, episode 3: “Those weren’t Ultraman cosplayers…”

And this week, we saw a lot more of the Moscow Combat Revue, as well as a not-so-subtle tease that the Kouma from the first episode might be closer than the Imperial Combat Revue expects.

L.B. Bryant: Something about the Moscow troupe confused me. The leader said that all the members were badly burned from the attack… and then like 60 seconds later one of them removes her helmet and she’s totally fine?

Anthony Simpson: I don’t think they Moscow troops are fully human anymore.

Samantha Ferreira: Yeah. The implication is that they’re basically robots.

And I think the helmet thing was also to imply that they couldn’t be trusted, since it was an obvious lie.

Anthony Simpson: This isn’t GI-Joe where stuff explodes, but everyone gets out in time and nobody gets injured. Robots or some kind of cyborgs. I would say more like robots for the Moscow troops.

Samantha Ferreira: Yeah. And it’s clear that Black Mantle is Valery.

Well, kind of. I’m spitballing here, hehe. But it seems like that field of villains has kind of dropped from “Moscow + Kouma + Black Mantle” to “just Moscow”

L.B. Bryant: I think we’re going to see the other villains return sooner rather than later

Anthony Simpson: I expect that as well L.B

Samantha Ferreira: Yeah… I’m thinking they’re one and the same, mostly

The red eye from Layla was a big hint at the mystery Kouma, and Valery was just one twirling moustache away from being a supervillain already

Sakura Wars The Animation anime still - A silver-haired woman smirks as she catches a punch. Her right eye glows red.

Anthony Simpson: True.

Samantha Ferreira: What I’m curious about is why Hatsuho went rogue in that battle, really. She’s… not exactly the type to do that.

Anthony Simpson: I was surprised with that as well.

Samantha Ferreira: I’m wondering what’s up there, since it just seemed out-of-character… doubly so given what I saw in the game

Sakura Wars The Animation anime still - A red-haired woman smiles as light shines upon her face.

Anthony Simpson: Just making a guess since I haven’t played the game would it have something to do with Sakura being made acting Captain?

Samantha Ferreira: Still strikes me as a bit odd. I’m wondering if something will pan out next week there

Anthony Simpson: I hope so.

Samantha Ferreira: On another note, I’m kind of amazed that Hakushu/White Mantle has been such a non-factor in this episode, given how much they focused on her last week.

Anthony Simpson: I was expecting her to show up at some point and do something. Not just standing there and watching

Samantha Ferreira: It was a bit odd, since she clearly knows something is up. That said, it does feel like next week will be the one where stuff hits the fan

Anthony Simpson: I would be disappointed if this doesn’t happen next week.

Samantha Ferreira: I’d be disappointed if this was our final episode for the season.

To give some context, to anyone who finds this a few years from now: Due to COVID-19, anime productions are being cancelled left and right for the safety of casts and crews alike. It goes without saying that we support taking steps to limit the spread and keep people safe.

Anthony Simpson: That certainly is a possibility that could happen here with this series.

Samantha Ferreira: Indeed.

L.B. Bryant: I’d be sad if we had to wait to see how the rest of this series is going to play out.

Samantha Ferreira: Likewise. I do like how it’s building up, especially with regards to allowing the cast to kind of breathe after that first episode. I do find it funny that Seijuro is in Paris, though… given that’s what happened with Ogami in Sakura Wars 3.

Anyway… any final thoughts this week?

L.B. Bryant: Nothing from me.

Anthony Simpson: Nothing from me

L.B. Bryant: Jinx.

Samantha Ferreira: Hehe. I guess that wraps it up for the week, then! Til next time, remember: if your crew is dressed like a bunch of evil robots, they’re probably the bad guys

Have a great night!

Anthony Simpson: Good night
