NYCC 2023: Hands On With Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections

In the Naruto universe, the nine-tailed fox Kurama asks an important question: “Do I really think I can win?”

I didn’t realize it at the time, but the person who play-tested Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections before me at this year’s New York Comic Con didn’t make it through the fight. My fate proved to be far different as, much to everyone’s surprise, I managed to pull off a 20-hit combo and survive Kurama’s assault.

Beginner’s luck, perhaps.

My playtime with the demo was limited, but I was able to form a few solid impressions on Bandai Namco’s upcoming brawler. With the easiest control scheme, the title did feel like a bit of a button-masher, but it still required a good sense to time dodges properly, and use stored allies at the right time. But, more important than that, the game looked and felt like Masashi Kishimoto’s seminal work.

Moreover, the game will feature a History Mode, which traces the events of the Naruto and Boruto anime series. Indeed, the cutscenes appeared to trace the major arcs of both storylines at first glance. For those who play online, the title featured an online-only Special Story Mode, which includes a new story based on Boruto.

Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections will launch on all major platforms on November 17.
