Ethics Statement

Statement of Ethics

CONDUCT

We do not accept travel or accommodations from companies we cover. This includes airfare, hotel rooms, rental cars, or train fare. If we review a product that was supplied by a distributor, we will disclose this in the review itself.

REVIEW PROCESS

We do sometimes discuss review content with distributors prior to the review’s publication, but we will not change or alter our content on their feedback. Our writers will never discuss review content with our partners, and our executives assert that opinions are those of the readers and not to be influenced.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Unless expressly stated, Anime Herald’s writers will not cover organizations or businesses in which:

  • The writer has a financial stake or investment
  • The writer was previously employed at the organization or businesses
  • The writer has a spouse, partner, or person with whom they share a similarly close relationship that works for said organization or business.

SOURCES

Anime Herald’s policy is to properly attribute all possible sources. Anonymous sources must prove their identity to us to be cited in a story. We will protect the identities of our sources.

CORRECTIONS

While we make every effort to be completely accurate upon publication, some details may slip through the cracks in editing. Inaccurate stories will be edited, but they will not be removed from the site itself.

ADVERTISING

We will not accept money or compensation as a condition or incentive to write a review or article, be it favorable or unfavorable, on Anime Herald. All reviews and articles are based on the editorial discretion of the staff, and not on the desires of a publisher, advertiser, or PR firm. Our policies forbid the placement of advertorials – advertisements masquerading as editorials – on Anime Herald. All advertisements on the site will be clearly marked as such.

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

On that note, we are participants in other affiliate programs, which are also designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to our affiliates.

PRESS RELEASES

We receive regular press releases from distributors within the industry. Press releases will always be clearly marked as such, and will be presented in the format in which they were received, minus following alterations:

  • Removal of contact information
  • Removal of contact telephone numbers
  • Removal of contact e-mail addresses

PRODUCT SAMPLES FOR REVIEWS

Distributors may send DVD screeners or other products and samples to our editorial staff, in order for us to review. We do not accept screeners or samples with pre-conditions, such as, that we will agree to provide a review simply because the company sent a sample. However, we do place priority on screeners sent by publishers, though not every title will be covered, due to staff constraints. It should be noted that companies may provide screeners, or samples before the product is commercially available, or they may provide information before it is ready to be revealed to the public. In these cases, we may agree to an embargo with the company or its PR firm. In accordance to these agreements, we will not publish certain reviews or information untila given time.

If we review products that are not provided to us by a publisher, an editor will purchase the product for themselves (we buy tons of anime!).

All reviews for products that we receive from distributors will be clearly marked in the article or review.
