Aniplex of America Announces Complete Blu-ray Box Set  For Gurren Lagann 10 Year Anniversary

Gurren Lagann returns in a complete TV series and two movies in Blu-ray box set. One of the most cherished animation titles lives in your memory forever!

SANTA MONICA, CA (June 10, 2017) – Aniplex of America announced at their industry panel at AKon in Fort Worth, Texas that action-packed mecha anime Gurren Lagann will be getting a complete Blu-ray Box Set release. The Blu-ray Box Set will include all 27 episodes of the TV anime as well as both feature length movies –Childhood’s End- and –The Lights in the Sky Are Stars-. Pre-orders begin on June 12, 2017 and the formal release date will be August 8, 2017.

The TV series feature both the original Japanese dialogue and English dialogue. The star studded English dub cast includes Yuri Lowenthal (Durarara!!) as Simon, Michelle Ruff (Sword Art Online, ERASED) as Yoko, and Kyle Hebert (Blue Exorcist, Fate/Zero, KILL la KILL) as Kamina. The movies feature the original Japanese dialogue with subtitles.

Gurren Lagann, an original story by GAINAX and Kazuki Nakashima (KILL la KILL), was first aired in 2007 and was a joint project by GAINAX, Aniplex and KONAMI. Director and longtime mecha fan Hiroyuki Imaishi (KILL la KILL) was signed on with character designer Atsushi Nishigori (KILL la KILL, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) to deliver a mecha series that broke through the rules of anime and storytelling. The background score features noted composer Taku Iwasaki (The irregular at magic high school, R.O.D -THE TV-) and the opening theme “Sorairo Days” was provided by celebrity idol Shoko Nakagawa, a.k.a “Shokotan.”

Critically acclaimed by Anime News Network and IGN, Gurren Lagann received the “Best Television Production” award and the “Best Character Design” award at 7th annual Tokyo Anime Awards for its fast paced storytelling, otherworldly battles, and dynamic characters. The robot-packed series took home the Excellence Prize at the 2007 Japan Media Arts Festival. In 2014, the series aired on Cartoon Network’s TOONAMI ™ block, introducing the series to a new generation of fans. Now, for the 10 Year Anniversary, Aniplex of America is releasing the complete Blu-ray Box Set to celebrate.

About Gurren Lagann:

This is the story of a man who has yet to realize what destiny holds in store for him….

In the distant future, mankind has lived restlessly underground for hundreds of years, subject to earthquakes and cave-ins.  Living in one such village are two young men: one named Simon who is shy and naïve, and the other named Kamina who believes in the existence of a “surface” world above their heads. The destiny of these two starts moving drastically when the ceiling of their village falls in, and a gigantic “Gunmen” and a beautiful girl named Yoko, wielding a superconductive rifle, come from the surface. Together, Kamina, Simon and Yoko ride the mecha “Lagann” that Simon digs out of the ground, and fly up to the surface!
