Sentai Filmworks Snaps Up Cutie Honey Universe
HOUSTON, TX, March 29, 2018 – Sentai Filmworks announced today that it acquired all distribution rights to the eagerly awaited new retrofuturistic series that relaunches Japan’s most legendary cyberpop heroine, Cutie Honey Universe, for the Spring 2018 Simulcast season in the following territories: the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Nordics, Spain, Portugal and Central and South America.
Based on the groundbreaking franchise that launched the “magical girl” genre and produced as part of the 50th anniversary commemorating the work of anime and manga wunderkind Go Nagai (Devilman Crybaby), Cutie Honey Universe follows Honey Kisaragi, an amazingly humanlike and fashion conscious android with the unique ability to transform her body into a wide range of outrageous yet stylish disguises, each of which comes with its own dazzling super ability. After a run-in with a sinister secret criminal cabal organization, Panther Claw, the luscious and law-abiding Honey makes it her mission to bring them down.
The series will be directed by Akitoshi Yokoyama (Photo Kano) with series composition from Natsuko Takahashi (My Love Story!!, LOVE and LIES). Animation production will be handled by Production Reed (In Another World With My Smartphone, Rainbow Days).
The series will soon be available to stream on select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.
