As many of you have noticed, over the past week, we’ve been having some odd pockets of downtime, and some strange access restrictions popping up here and there. So, before we begin, I’d like to apologize for this.
That said, this hasn’t been without rhyme or reason.
Over the past week or so, I’ve been moving Anime Herald away from our current hosting situation at HostGator. This isn’t to disparage their services, mind you. They provided numerous invaluable assets to us in the form of reliable, steady hosting that would suit our needs for the time at hand. And for that, we’re incredibly thankful for their support!
That said, we’ve actually outgrown them. While HostGator’s promise of unlimited space and bandwidth was true, we were kind of overstaying our welcome. Our resource use was growing, and readers were complaining about sudden stretches of downtime that would last anywhere from five minutes to two hours. At the same time, the site’s response times were getting slower and slower by the day, and nobody was really happy with the outcomes. Rather than stick with it, we finally did was we needed to do. We hauled on our boots, grabbed our stuff, and got the heck out before we became “those people.”
So, for now, we’ve migrated to a VPS setup. While we’re still making a few tweaks and adjustments here and there, I’m pleased to say that the migration was a big success.
In the next week or so, I’ll be tweaking and playing a bit more, to get things just right. Afterwards, I’ll bring over our sister site, Order of the Nerd, before cutting the cord with Hostgator entirely. The end goal is to make everything run better, faster, and stronger than ever. It also gives us the flexibility to try new things, and grow out in ways we had not really attempted before. We’re the masters of our own domain now, and we’re going to use this opportunity to grow into the site that you want us to become.
So, for the most part, I want to thank you for your patience this week. You’re all awesome readers. Never forget that we believe in you – we believe in the you that believes in us. And with that, we’re going to keep growing, and keep reaching for the stars, as we evolve and grow.
