Yo-Kai Watch Key Visual 001 - 20150623It’s like Pokémon… with yokai! Or something!

Earlier today, Dentsu Entertainment USA and video game developer Level-5 announced that the Yo-kai Watch anime series will get a North American TV run. The series air on Disney XD, as well as several Disney XD-branded media platforms, later this year.

At the moment, the broadcast agreement includes 26 episodes.

In addition to the announcement, the official Yo-Kai Watch website updated with an English trailer for the series.

While the one-minute teaser doesn’t feature any dialogue, it does use an English version of the theme song as its musical track.

Yo-kai Watch first hit the Japanese market in July 2013, with the launch of the first Nintendo 3DS game. The anime series, which began airing in January 2014, currently spans 74 episodes. Since its début, the series has exploded in popularity, with each game selling copies in the millions. The latest title, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Star Performer, sold 2.6 million copies as of June 14, 2015.

Nintendo will release the first 3DS game in North America later this year.

Hasbro will handle toy sales for the property, with the first line due to hit North American retailers in Spring 2016. Viz Media holds the rights to the manga, which they will publish under their Perfect Square imprint.

Viz describes Yo-Kai Watch as follows:

Nathan Adams is just an average kid until the mysterious Whisper gives him a device that allows him to see what others cannot, Yo-kai of all shapes and forms! Now, armed with the Yo-kai Watch, Nathan, Whisper and their new invisible friends embark on an all new supernatural adventure!

It should be noted that the English theme previewed is different from the original Japanese show’s opening, which you can check out below:
