Ao Oni: The Animation Film Gets New Visual, Cast Reveals, & Character Designs


Soon, the terror of the blue demon shall rise in the animated realm.

Earlier today, the official Aooni The Blue Monster (Ao Oni: The Animation) film website updated with a new visual. The image features a darkened classroom, with the titular blue demon staring through a window.

The first cast members for the film were also unveiled. The movie will star the following:

  • Kōji Manabe: Ryota Ohsaka
  • Jun Takashiro: Eri Kitamura
  • Shōichirō Murakami: Takahiro Mizushima
  • Karin Mizuki: Ayane Sakura
  • Shō Konaka: Shūta Morishima
  • Fumihiko Tachibana: Kenji Nojima
  • Mifuyu Hatano: Yōko Hikasa
  • Kaoru Fujimoto: Hiroki Touchi

The Ao Oni: The Animation movie will open in Japanese theaters in 2017. The film will be closer to the original game’s horror atmosphere than its TV counterpart, though it will boast a new storyline.

Toshirō Hamamura was tapped to direct the film at Studio Deen, with Takemaru Abiko (Kamaitachi no Yoru, The Starship Damrey) writing the script.

The Ao Oni TV series began airing in the Fall 2016 broadcast season. Crunchyroll currently streams the show as part of its simulcast lineup.
