Funimation To SimulDub Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, 10 More In Winter 2017


Big series! Big dubs! I love it!

Earlier today, Funimation announced their list of SimulDub titles for the Winter 2017 broadcast season. The company will stream the following:

  • Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (2/1/2017 at 10:00PM Eastern)
  • Saga of Tanya the Evil (Youjo Senki; 1/23/2017 at 10:00PM Eastern)
  • Nanbaka (Ongoing, Saturdays at 9:30PM Eastern)
  • All Out!! (Ongoing, Mondays at 9:00PM Eastern)
  • Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On (Ongoing, Sundays at 9:30PM Eastern)
  • Trickster (Ongoing, Thursdays at 10:00PM Eastern)
  • Puzzle & Dragons X (Ongoing, Saturdays at 9:30PM Eastern)

Tales of Zestiria The X is based on Bandai Namco’s Tales of Zestiria role playing game. Studio ufotable (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, God Eater) is producing the series, which is being helmed by Haruo Sotozaki (Tales of Symphonia the Animation, Tales of Zestiria: Dōshi no Yoake). Akira Matsushima (Maria Watches Over Us, Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection) is providing character designs for the project.

Funimation describes the series as:

Legends speak of the Shepherd, a savior who will bring peace to the seraphim and human worlds. Sorey has spent his life studying ancient books and exploring ruins to learn more about the legendary savior. When he and his seraphim companion Mikleo encounter a mysterious girl in the ruins, the stories of the Shephard become Sorey’s reality. Is he strong enough to take on the evil Lord of Calamity?

Akiba’s Trip is based on Acquire’s video game series of the same name. Hiroshi Ikehata (Seiyu’s Life!, Robot Girls Z) was tapped to direct the show at Gonzo, while Hajime Mitsuda (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Steins;Gate) provides character designs. Kazuho Hyodo (ReLIFE, Mobile Suit Gundam AGE) is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes the title as:

Based off the hit game comes a new series about the danger lurking in the Otaku heaven of Akihabara. Vampires with an ability to take over anyone they bite seek their prey in this anime fan’s paradise. When Tamotsu Denkigai encounters one, he nearly loses his life until the mysterious Matome Mayonaka revives him! Now part vampire, he forms a group to protect the streets of Akiba.

Hand Shakers is an original series by studio GoHands. The studio is taking charge of original planning, while Goon Trax composes the show’s music. GoHands, Frontier Works, and Kadokawa are all credited with the original concept.

Hiromitsu Kanazawa (Hiromitsu Kanazawa, Princess Lover!) and Shingo Suzuki (Coppelion, K) will direct the series, which features character designs by Takayuki Uchida (Asa made Jugyō Chu!). Hiromitsu Kanazawa is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes Hand Shakers as:

When Tazuna comes in contact with a mysterious girl, they step into a world full of enemies too powerful to handle alone.

Masamune-kun’s revenge is based on Hazuki Takeoka and illustrator Tiv’s manga of the same name. Mirai Minato (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya) will direct the series at Silver Link, with Yuki Sawairi providing character designs. Michiko Yokote (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, Genshiken) is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes the series as:

Eight years ago, Makabe Masamune, a weak and chubby boy, was harshly rejected by the beautiful Adagaki Aki. Now, he’s lost a ton of weight, changed his name, and returned as a handsome teenage boy… all to make the “Brutal Princess” Aki fall in love with him so that he can reject her just as harshly as she did.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is based on Coolkyoushinja’s (I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying) manga of the same name. Yasuhiro Takemoto (Lucky Star, Amagi Brilliant Park) will direct the series, which will feature character designs by Miku Kadowaki (Beyond the Boundary, Amagi Brilliant Park). Yuka Yamada (Yuka Yamada, Umi Monogatari) is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes the show as:

Miss Kobayashi lives a perfectly normal life until she stumbles upon a dragon—who turns into a cute maid girl named Tooru?

Saga of Tanya the Evil is based on Carlo Zen’s light novel series of the same name. Yutaka Uemura (Punch Line, The Mystic Archives of Dantalian) will direct the project at Studio NuT, with Yuji Hosogoe providing character designs. Kenta Ihara is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes Saga of Tanya the Evil as:

A little girl with blond hair, blue eyes, and porcelain skin fights on the front lines of a brutal war and climbs the ranks of the imperial army.

Nanbaka adapts Sho Futamata’s manga of the same name. Shinji Takamatsu (Gintama, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) is directing the series at Satelight, while Mitsutaka Hirota (The Prince of Tennis II, Sweetness and Lightning) pens the scripts.

Funimation describes the show as:

Welcome to Nanba, the world’s largest, most impenetrable prison. Locked away in cell block 13 are four inmates who provide more than enough trouble for Officer Hajime. Between attempted breakouts, gambling, and general misbehaving, these four believe that just because they’re in prison doesn’t mean they can’t have fun! Follow the hijinks of Jyugo, Uno, Rock, and Nico as they pass time behind bars.

All Out!! is based on Shiori Amase’s manga of the same name. Kenichi Shimizu (Parasyte -the maxim-) is directing the series at TMS Entertainment and Madhouse, with Masanori Shino (Black Lagoon, Digimon Adventure tri.) providing character designs. Masahiro Yokotaki (Free! Eternal Summer, The Devil is a Part-Timer!) is in charge of series composition. He’s penning the show’s scripts with Shingo Irie (Kuroko’s Basketball).

Funimation describes All Out!! as:

Kenji Gion and Sumiaki Iwashimizu take to the field with the rugby club, ready to prove they have what it takes and go all out!

Monster Hunter Stories is based on the Monster Hunter Stories 3DS game. Mitsuru Hongo (Deltora QuestSakura Wars: The Movie) is helming the adaptation at David Production, with Takuya Saito (Macross ZeroOutlaw Star) providing character designs. Natsuko Takahashi (Fantastic Detective LabyrinthYatterman (2008)) is in charge of series composition.

Funimation describes the show as:

A young boy journeys to find his own monster companion and awaken its powers, hoping to become the world’s greatest Rider.

Trickster is based on Rampo Edogawa’s Boys Detective manga series. Masahiro Mukai (Hyperdimension Neptunia) is directing the project at Shin-Ei Animation and TMS Entertainment, with Shinya Yamada providing character designs. Erika Yoshida (Tiger & Bunny Episodes 15 & 23) is penning the show’s scripts, while Yuuki Hayashi (Death Parade, Robotics;Notes) scores the soundtrack.

Funimation describes the series as:

Follow Kensuke Hanasaki and the Boys’ Detective Team as they investigate dark mysteries around the city and an undying boy named Kobayashi.
