Dragon Dentist is a two-part special, which will hit NHK BS Premium on February 18 and 25. An international version will be offered online in March.
Dragon Dentist is a feature-length special, based on the Animator Expo short of the same name. Kazuya Tsurumaki (Rebuild of Evangelion) will direct the project at Khara, with Shuichi Iseki providing character designs. Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Sailor Moon SuperS) and creator Otaro Maijo will collaborate on the title’s scripts. Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kare Kano) will serve as executive producer and director of audiography. Nobuo Kawakami will also executive produce.
NHK describes Dragon Dentist as:
The story takes place in Dragon Country.
Nonoko is a newly appointed dentist and her mission is to protect the dragon, the guardian of the country, from tooth-cavity bacteria.
One day, amid increasingly fierce battles with the neighboring country, Nonoko finds on the dragon’s tooth an unconscious boy soldier from the enemy country.
His name is Bell, and he has been resurrected from inside the tooth by the dragon—a supernatural phenomenon that legend says occurs before a major disaster.
As Nonoko and Bell go through a series of fierce battles, they eventually learn to accept their fate.
This fantasy adventure, created on an unprecedentedly epic scale, will keep viewers thrilled and enraptured.
The Dragon Dentist first appeared in 2014, as the opening short for Khara’s Animator Expo. The episode was helmed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, with Yoshinori Kameda providing character designs. Voice actors Koichi Yamadera and Megumi Hayashibara performed all voice roles.
