It looks like the anime con scene’s getting a bit crunchier this summer.
Earlier today, Crunchyroll announced that they’ll host their own anime convention. The event, called “Crunchyroll Expo,” will be held from August 25-27 at California’s Santa Clara Convention Center. LeftField Media, who oversee Anime NYC, will be partnering with Crunchyroll for the event.
A website was opened to promote the event, though pre-registrations haven’t kicked off at this point. According to the site, Crunchyroll Expo will feature “exhibits, screenings, panels, and guest appearances by some of the biggest personalities in Japan and the US.” The official press release states that “Crunchyroll will bring together key partners, exhibitors, and influencers from the video game, manga, and cosplay worlds to keep fans excited and engaged the whole weekend.”
Crunchyroll head of events Dallas Middaugh commented on the news, stating:
Crunchyroll has always invested in anime conventions. It’s the best way to interact with our biggest fans, and with Crunchyroll Expo, we’re taking the best aspects of con-life and going next-level […] Crunchyroll has a special relationship with our fans and we’re uniquely positioned to give back to those fans with an incredible experience.
