“Ryuo’s Work is Never Done!” Anime Gets New Staff, Visual, Character Designs

The top shogi player in Japan won’t be resting any time soon, and neither is the staff behind his show, apparently.

Earlier today, the official The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done! (Ryūō no Oshigoto!) anime website updated with new staff members, theme song details, and visuals. We break the details down below:

Key Visual

The new visual features Hinazuru, Kuzuryū, Yashajin, and Sora standing on a giant shogi board. Kiyotaki, Mizukoshi, Sadatō, and Izoard are super-imposed over shogi pieces.

Character Visuals

Visuals for the eight major characters were also released. You can check these out below:

All of the above are reprising their roles from a previously-released Drama CD.

Shiratori Shirow and illustrator Shirabi’s Ryūō no Oshigoto! light novels made their début in 2015, under SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint. To date, five volumes have been released, with the most recent shipping on July 14.

A manga adaptation of the title also launched in 2015, by Kazuki and illustrator Kogetaokoge. The series made its début in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine, and currently spans four compiled volumes. The fifth book will hit stores on Thursday.

For audiences outside of Japan, Bookwalker Global revealed that they licensed the original light novel series as their second exclusive. The first volume will be released in English this fall, via Bookwalker’s site.

Bookwalker describes Ryūō no Oshigoto! as:

The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done! (working title) is about a teenage boy named Yaichi Kuzuryuu who happens to be the strongest shogi player in history, holding the top title of “Ryuo” (Dragon King). One fateful day, shogi-loving elementary student, Ai Hinatsuru, appears before him claiming that he promised to be her master. But was such a promise really ever made? Thus began their master and disciple relationship!
Who can match their level of intensity and passion for shogi?
