“Back Street Girls” Manga Gets Anime TV Series

Let’s be honest, folks. This is a plot that could easily serve as one of the Yakuza games’ substories.

The latest issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine (Issue 1, 2018) announced that Jasmine Gyuh’s Back Street Girls – Washira Idol Hajimemashita. (Back Street Girls – I Became An Idol) will receive an anime TV series. As of press time, no details have been announced.

Back Street Girls launched in Weekly Young Magazine in March 2015. The series currently spans eight collected volumes, with the most recent hitting stores on September 6.

Manga resource Baka-Updates describes the title as:

A group of 3 yakuza failed their boss for the last time. After messing up an important job, the boss gives them 2 choices: Honorably committing suicide, or go to Thailand to get a sex reassignment surgery in order to becomes “female” idols. After a gruesome year long training to become idols, they successfully debut, with overwhelming popularity, much to their dismay. This is where their tragedy truly begins.
