2018 Pokémon Movie to be Produced by Oriental Light and Magic and Wit Studio

Ash is back on the road, with an all-new ally.

Earlier today, the official Pokémon anime movie website updated with a teaser trailer and visual for an upcoming anime film. In addition, the site lists the first major crew members attached to the project.

We break the details down below.

Teaser Trailer

The 30-second teaser shows off a new female character, who is unnamed as of press time. The video ends with the tagline “Everybody’s story begins.”

The promo confirms a July 13, 2018 première, and confirms that Oriental Light and Magic and Wit Studio are collaborating on the feature.

Key Visual

The new image shows Ash and Pikachu walking against a white background. A portion of the new character’s profile can be seen in the foreground on the left side of the shot. Her multicolored hair and a Pokéball are clearly visible in the image.

Staff

Tetsuo Yajima (Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, Pokémon XY) is returning to direct the project at Oriental Light and Magic and Wit Studio. Shizue Kaneko (Monster Strike The Movie, If Her Flag Breaks) is providing character designs for the film.

Oriental Light and Magic has been the go-to studio for the Pokémon anime franchise. The studio has served as the main production house for the brand since the TV series launched in 1997.

This is the first time that Wit Studio is listed as a main production house for a Pokémon movie. In the past, they have provided production assistance on projects.
