“Ace Attorney” Anime Gets Second Season in Fall 2018


This one feels like it’s been a long time coming. We can finally return to Los Angeles, truly the greatest city in the United States. Now eat your hamburgers, Apollo. (Oh, come on! You knew this was coming eventually!)

Earlier today, the official Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban) anime website announced that the show will receive a second season. A new visual for the season, which is titled Gyakuten Saiban ~ Sono “Shinjitsu,” Igiari! ~ Season 2 (Ace Attorney ~To That “Truth,” Objection! ~ Season 2), as well as the core cast and crew were confirmed.

We break the details down below.

Key Visual

The new visual features Phoenix and Maya standing front and center. They stand before a large back-shot of prosecutor Godot.

Cast

Six returning cast members were confirmed for the project (English name / Japanese name):

  • Phoenix Wright/Ryūichi Naruhodō: Yuuki Kaji
  • Maya Fey/Mayoi Ayasato: Aoi Yūki
  • Miles Edgeworth/Reiji Mitsurugi: Masashi Tamaki
  • Mia Fey/Chihiro Ayasato: Chie Nakamura
  • Dick Gumshoe/Keisuke Itonokogiri: Masami Iwasaki
  • Larry Butz/Masashi Yahari: Tooru Nara

Staff

Ayumu Watanabe (If Her Flag Breaks, Space Brothers) is returning to direct the series at A-1 Pictures. Keiko Ōta (Hyakko!) is once again in charge of character designs on the project, while Atsuhiro Tomioka (Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon XY) takes charge of series composition.

Kaoru Wada (Princess Tutu, Ninja Scroll) will return to score the show’s soundtrack. Original game designer Shu Takumi is collaborating on the project.

Ace Attorney is based on Capcom’s video game franchise of the same name. The show’s first season aired in the Spring 2016 broadcast season. the series covered the cases from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, as well as sequel series Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan. Funimation produced an English dub and released the title on home video. They describe the show as:

As a brand-new defense lawyer, Phoenix Wright is learning what it means to be a true defender of justice. But when his mentor is murdered, things go downhill fast! With all evidence pointing to the victim’s sister Maya, it’s up to Phoenix to use all his wit and powerful shouting to prove her innocence. Which is easier said than done when up against Miles Edgeworth, the genius prosecutor.
