Ed Chavez Launches Manga Publisher Denpa; Announces 7 Titles


All I can say is “Whoa. This is huge.”

Earlier today, Ed Chavez announced that he is launching a new manga publisher, named Denpa, LLC. Chavez revealed seven titles that will hit stores under the company’s banner:

  • Kaiji by Nobuyuki Fukumoto
  • Inside Mari by Shuzo Oshimi
  • An Invitation from a Crab (Kani ni Sasowarete) by panpanya
  • Futurelog by Range Murata
  • Maiden Railways (Tetsudou Shojo Manga) by Atsumiko Nakamura
  • Super Dimensional Love Gun by Shintaro Kago
  • Legend of the Overfiend by Toshio Maeda

Super Dimensional Love Gun and Legend of the Overfiend are hentai titles, which were previously distributed on Fakku!

Ed Chavez is the former marketing director for manga publisher Vertical, Inc. He’s worked in the industry as a translator and editor for numerous organizations, including Seven Seas, CMX and Kodansha.

Kaiji

Kaiji Manga Volume 1 Cover

Kaiji originally launched in the pages of Kodansha’s Young Magazine in February 2016. The ongoing series currently spans 67 volumes, with the latest shipping to stores on July 11.

The series spawned two anime TV adaptations, with the most recent hitting Japanese TV in 2011. Yūzō Satō (The Gokusen, Naruto: The Cross Roads) directed the show at Madhouse, with Haruhito Takada (Mr. Tonegawa, Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge) providing character designs. Hideo Takayashiki (Gurazeni: Money Pitch, Maison Ikkoku) was in charge of series composition.

Crunchyroll currently streams the Kaiji anime, and describes the title as:

Kaiji Ito is a total loser. He lives day by day gambling, making small debt and taking out his frustration on expensive imported cars. His life changes one day with a visit from a loan shark, Endo. Endo seduces the disheartened Kaiji, “You can wipe the debt away in one night.”

Inside Mari

Inside Mari Manga Volume 1 Cover

Inside Mari began publication in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine in 2012. The series, which ran through 2016, spans eight collected volumes.

Crunchyroll distributes Inside Mari on their digital platform. They describe the title as:

An Invitation from a Crab

An Invitation From a Crab Manga Cover

panpanya’s An Invitation from a Crab began publication in Hakusensha’s Rakuen Le Paradis magazine. The title was released as a one-shot in April 2014.

Futurelog

Futurelog is an illustration book compiling Range Murata’s illustrations across 281 pages. The title hit Japanese retailers on February 27.

Maiden Railways

Maiden Railways Japanese Manga Cover

Maiden Railways is a 2011 manga, which originally launched in Hakusensha’s Melody magazine. The series spans a single compiled volume.

Manga resource Baka-Updates describes the title as:

A collection of discrete but interconnected love stories centering around trains and train stations.
