Revue Starlight aired in the Summer 2018 broadcast season.

The title is part of a multimedia franchise from Bushiroad and Nelke Planning, which was first unveiled in April 2017. At the time, a stage musical and anime TV series were confirmed. Bushiroad launched two manga titles in the franchise in Monthly Bushiroad Magazine’s February 2018 issue.

Tomohiro Furukawa was tapped to direct the anime at Kinema Citrus, with Hiroyuki Saita (Kumamiko – Girl meets Bear, My mental choices are completely interfering with my school romantic comedy) providing character designs. Tatsuto Higuchi (Schwarzes Marken, CROSS ANGE Rondo of Angel and Dragon) was in charge of series composition for the project.

Sentai Filmworks currently holds the rights to the show, which they describes as:

This coming-of-age story steeped in magical realism focuses on childhood friends, Karen and Hikari, who’ve dreamt of becoming stars together but instead have to compete against each other alongside other passionate and talented girls for the lead role in the popular Starlight play.
