Discotek Media Adds New Cutey Honey, Yowapeda Re:RIDE / Re:ROAD

On May 1, Discotek Media took to Facebook to announce that they acquired three new titles. The publisher picked up the rights to 1994 OVA New Cutey Honey, as well as the Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE and Yowamushi Pedal Re:ROAD movies.

New Cutey Honey

Discotek will ship New Cutey Honey on Blu-Ray on July 30. The release will include the original Japanese audio, as well as ADV Films’ dub for the series.

The title is an eight-episode OVA, which is based on Go Nagai’s classic Cutey Honey manga. The series was directed by Yasuchika Nagaoka (Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars) at Toei Video, with Osamu Horiuchi (Full Metal Panic!, Hayate the Combat Butler) providing character designs.

ADV Films originally released the series on VHS and DVD, with the VHS release hitting in 2000.

Discotek describes the title as:

The forces of evil were looking for trouble; they found Cutey! In a futuristic world where evil comes in all shapes and sizes, she is the ultimate weapon. She’s Cutey Honey, a one woman S.W.A.T. team whose android chassis is capable of changing at will into a dazzling array of hard-hitting, curvaceous bodies each with its own set of special skills, weapons and other impressive physical attributes. Go Nagai’s legendary android super-hero is back and hitting the bad guys where it hurts most!

Yowamushi Pedal

Discotek will ship Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE and Yowamushi Pedal Re:ROAD in a single set on Blu-Ray on July 30.

Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE and Yowamushi Pedal Re:ROAD are a pair of compilation films that adapt the Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road TV series. Osamu Nabeshima (D.Gray-man, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas) helmed the project at TMS Entertainment. Takahiko Yoshida (Welcome to the NHK, Big Windup!) provided character designs on the project, while Reiko Yoshida (Bakuman, The Cat Returns) was in charge of series composition.

Discotek describes the films as:

Re:RIDE: Initially, when a fourth grade Sakamichi Onoda started biking to Akihabara every week, it was an effort to save money. Driven by a need to improve his own skills, Junior pro cyclist Shunsuke challenges Sakamichi to a race, and while the outcome might seem obvious, there’s some surprises in store for both of them before they reach the finish line!

Re:ROAD: Picking up right where season one left off, the Inter-High is in full swing, and Day 2 is still undecided. There’s only a few kilometers left until the end, but this grueling race isn’t just about who will cross the finish line first–it’s about who will get there at all!
