The Japan Animator Expo, a collaboration between Dwango and Studio Khara, has been a celebration of experimental anime. The digital event, which will release a new short every week over the course of 30 weeks, has already featured films of countless genres and styles. Everything, from surreal music videos, to inspirational sports stories, to a love letter to Denko Choujin Gridman by Trigger seems to be fair game.

In December, a short by director Tadashi Hiramatsu (Kaleido Star, End of Evangelion [Animation Director]) made its début. Until You Come To Me was a subtle, haunting return to the world of Evangelion, that saw Shinji Ikari walking through battle-scarred landscapes of Japan. It was low-key, with no real dialogue. At the same time, though, it was a feature that spoke volumes.

For episode 12, the festival is returning to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Bubblegum Crisis) will be taking the reins on evangelion:Another Impact (Confidential).

Mechanical designs will be handled by Atsushi Takeuchi, whose talents contributed to Appleseed (Mechanical Designer) and Evangelion (Animator). CG animation will be directed by Masaru Matsumoto (Appleseed Alpha).

The official story description is as follows:

Another time, another place.
An activation test of a decisive weapon was underway.
With its development and operational trials shrouded in complete
secrecy, the Another Number – Unit Null, suddenly breaks free of human
control and goes berserk.

For what purpose was Another Number – Unit Null created?

The story of an Evangelion’s activation, rampage and howling in another world.

evangelion:Another Impact (Confidential) is slated for a February 9, 2015 release. A short teaser was posted to the NicoNico Douga video streaming service.
