Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale To Get Global Release On 2/18/2017


sword-art-online-ordinal-scale-visual-001-20161002On February 18, fans across the globe will be able to experience the launch of Ordinal Scale.

Yesterday, Kadokawa announced that upcoming film Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will receive a global release. According to Kadokawa, the feature will be “simultaneously released worldwide on February 18, 2017.”

Earlier this year, the film’s staff announced that Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will run in 1,000 locations across the globe.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale movie was first unveiled at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival on October 4, 2015. Tomohiko Itō is directing the feature at A-1 Pictures, with character designs by Shingo Adachi. Series creator Reki Kawahara is penning the film’s story.

The confirmed voice cast includes:

  • Kazuto Kirigaya/Kirito: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
  • Asuna Yūki: Haruka Tomatsu
  • Rika Shinozaki/Lizbeth: Ayahi Takagaki
  • Suguha Kirigaya/Leafa: Ayana Taketatsu
  • Klein: Hiroaki Hirata
  • Andrew Gilbert Mills/Agil: Hiroki Yasumoto
  • Yui: Kanae Itō
  • Shino Asada/Sinon: Miyuki Sawashiro
  • Keiko Ayano/Silica: Rina Hidaka
  • Akihiko Kayaba: Kouichi Yamadera

Aniplex of America announced that will give the film a North American theatrical run in spring 2017. They described the feature as:

It’s just a game,or so I thought..
A brand new story written by original author, Reki Kawahara!! People everywhere were enjoying a new game called Ordinal Scale, an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma, a new wearable console designed for AR (augmented reality) gaming. But, the players had no idea that a nightmare from the virtual world was starting to spread into reality!! As his fellow players find themselves in danger, the hero is called upon once again.
