Hisakawa-san is stepping into the shoes of giants… let’s wish her the best!

Earlier today, Toei Animation announced that Aya Hisakawa will play Bulma in the Dragon Ball franchise. She will succeed the late Hiromi Tsuru, who held the role since the original Dragon ball premiered in 1986.

Hisakawa made her debut as Bulma in a TV commercial, which aired recently that featured characters from Dragon Ball Super promoting cleaning supplies. The advertisement was briefly hosted by Amazon JP’s Twitter account, before being taken down.

Hisakawa has been active in the entertainment industry since 1993. Through her career, she’s performed many iconic roles, including:

  • Ami Mizuno / Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon)
  • Skuld (Ah! My Goddess)
  • Rem Saverem (Trigun)
  • Kerberos (Cardcaptor Sakura)
  • Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket)
  • Minamo “Nyamo” Kurosawa (Azumanga Daioh)
  • Miki Kaoru (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
  • Lindy Harlaown (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)

In the Dragon Ball franchise, Hisakawa has played Chiko, who appeared in Dragon Ball Z episode 16.

In November, fans across the world were devastated, when news broke that actress Hiromi Tsuru passed away suddenly. The actress was found unconscious in her car, which was discovered in Tokyo’s Chuo ward. She was later pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, with the final diagnosis being an aortic dissection.
