“How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord” Anime Gets New Trailer, Visual, & Staff

You really don’t want to summon a demon lord incorrectly – they charge by the hour.

Earlier today, the official How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord (Isekai Maō to Shōkan Shōjo no Dorei Majutsu) anime website updated with a new teaser trailer and a trio of visuals, as well as the first staff members attached to the project.

We break the details down below.

Trailer

The minute-long teaser introduces the core story as text overlays, which cuts to small snippets of animation. Dubstep music plays as a background track.

No, really.

Visual

The new visual features series leads Diablo, Shera L. Greenwood, and Rem Galleu standing on a cliffside.

Individual images for Rem and Shera were also revealed, which you can check out below.

Yūta Murano (Brave Beats, Dream Festival!) was tapped to direct the show at Ajia-do, with Shizue Kaneko (If Her Flag Breaks, Monster Strike The Movie) providing character designs. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, Yatterman Night) is in charge of series composition for the project.

  • Chief Animation Director: Yuki Nishioka
  • Original Creator: Yukiya Murasaki
  • Original Character Design: Takahiro Tsurusaki
  • Monster Design: Yuki Miyamoto
  • Director of Photography: Teppei Satō
  • Animation Director: Yuki Miyamoto
  • Color design: Natsuko Otsuka
  • Sound Director: Satoshi Motoyama

Yukiya Murasaki and illustrator Takahiro Tsurusaki’s How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord made its début under Kodansha’s main label in December 2014. Eight volumes have been released to date, with the most recent hitting stores on August 2.

J-Novel Club currently holds the global English digital rights to the light novels, which they describe as:

In the MMORPG Cross Reverie, Takuma Sakamoto is so powerful that he is lauded as the “Demon Lord” by other players. One day, he is summoned to another world – but with the same appearance he had in the game! There, he meets two girls who both proclaim themselves to be his Summoner. They had performed an Enslavement Ritual to turn him into their Summon… but that’s when Takuma’s passive ability <> activated! Instead, it was the girls who had become enslaved! Though Takuma may have been the strongest Sorcerer there was, he had no idea how to talk with other people. That’s when he makes his choice: to act based on his persona from the game!

“Amazing? But of course… I am Diablo, the being known and feared as the Demon Lord!”

So begins a tale of adventure with an earth-shakingly powerful Demon Lord (or at least someone who acts like one) taking on another world!

A manga adaptation by Naoto Fukuda made its début in June 2015 on Kodansha’s Suiyōbi no Sirius digital platform. Five collected volumes have been released to date, the most recent of which hit stores on August 9. Seven Seas currently holds the domestic rights to the manga.
