AniWeekly 158: A Big Week for BanG Dream!


Happy Sunday, readers, and welcome to an all-new AniWeekly! This was a big week for BanG Dream! fans, who received a new TV series, a new idol group, and not one but two new seasons of the mainline anime. Outside of the excitement of the stage, though, it was a week of big reveals and shocking tragedies, as we got glimpses of works like Fate/stay night and Tiger & Bunny, and shed tears for Tomoka Igari and Yuichiro Umehara.

There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s dive into the latest!

Give the music maker a warm welcome! Er… again! the final concert in Yui Ogura’s “Platinum Airline ☆ ~ Tomorrow Town ~” tour, Ogura Ogura announced that she will perform the opening theme song to upcoming anime Ongaku Shojo.

Starting a new adventure with a bang. New details hit the web for upcoming movie Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation. A key visual and several character designs were unveiled, as well as the film’s October 19 premiere date.

Hitting the stage on a tiny scale. A new BanG Dream! anime series, titled BanG Dream! Girls Band Party Pico! is in the works. This short-form series will hit Japanese TV on July 5.

A new dream for Poppin’ Party. In addition to the new show, BanG Dream is getting two new anime seasons next year. The second season will hit Japanese TV in January.

An all new, totally bangin’ universe. A new, all-male group is joining the BanG Dream! franchise. Don’t expect any crossover, though, as this new group is apparently part of a new universe.

Sending our best wishes. Tragedy struck on April 11, when Kamen Joshi member Tomoka Igari was hospitalized due to severe injuries. A freak accident saw the idol paralyzed from the waist down. This story does have a hopeful ending, though, as Alice Project, who manages the Kamen Joshi, issued a statement stating that Igari will continue to be a member of the group.

More best wishes for a rising star in the voice acting world. Another tragedy hit this week, as voice actor Yuichiro Umehara was admitted to the hospital. Umehara was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), a rare autoimmune disease, which exhibits symptoms similar to MS.

All hail the scum! Wait… Sentai Filmworks announced that they picked up the rights to Scum’s Wish, and plan to produce an English dub for the title.

Make way for Miss Modern. Eleven Arts announced that Haikara-San: Here Comes Miss Modern will get an English dub. In a Facebook post, the distributor revealed that Mimi Torres (Fallout 4, Sleeping Dogs) will play the lead role as Benio in the adaptation.

I need a hero…ine! A key visual and trailer for To Be Heroine hit the web, as well as the first cast and crew members. The series will use a unique casting setup where Japanese actors play parts in the 2D sections, while Chinese talent stars in 3D animated sequences.

The most evil death convicts are on the loose! Five new cast members, plus a trailer for Baki hit the web. The new roles will play the five convicts that are central to the manga’s first major arc.

Once again, the Holy Grail has revealed itself. A new trailer for Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel II. lost butterfly hit the web, along with a final version of the visual shown off last week.

Brought to you by Pepsi Next! The Hollywood Tiger & Bunny movie is still in production. Actually, Bandai Namco Pictures revealed two new production partners for the film, which are Global Road Entertainment and Weed Road Pictures.

Two giants join forces. IG Port and internet provider NTT Plala announced that they’re entering a joint capital venture. The agreement, which will see Plala picking up 4.98% of IG Port’s outstanding shares, will see the two companies banding together to produce new content.

Marty! We need to dive! Dive to the Future! Upcoming anime Free! Dive to the Future received two trailers and a key visual, along with the main cast and crew attached to the project. Free! -Timeless Medley- director Eisaku Kawanami will be helming this new chapter at Kyoto Animation.

Love and Robots. Yūsuke Yamada’s I fall in love with you through a robot light novels will receive a feature film. The site updated with a teaser trailer, which was produced by studio A-1 Pictures.
